Bush bribes Iraqi insurgents to switch sides

Sat Sep 08, 2007 at 10:45:15 PM PDT

Remember Tora Bora? When we paid those "tribals" in Afghanistan to switch sides? And they promptly let Al Qaeda go when they got a better offer from Bin Laden?

Apparently, Bush didn't learn his lesson. He's now paying Sunni insurgents to switch sides in Iraq.

And what's more, General David Petraeus is planning to tout these relationships as one of the shining examples of "surge" success when he testifies before congress next week, according to an article in the Sunday Times.

French 'conservative' calls for timetable, will Fox News blink?

Mon Aug 27, 2007 at 10:00:23 AM PDT

It was only a few months ago that the pea brains at Fox News were celebrating the election of a new ally for their Dear Leader, as France went to the polls and elected conservative Nicolas Sarkozy to succeed Jacques Chirac, who was hated and vilified by good little Wingnuts everywhere.

Well, it didn't take long for the honeymoon to end.

BuyBlue to receive second life (?)

Tue May 22, 2007 at 08:16:55 AM PDT

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a diary about the shut down of BuyBlue.org, a very useful Web site founded in 2004 that graded industrial and consumer products and services companies in areas such as employee treatment, environmental policies and, most importantly, donations to Democratic and Republican candidates.

This morning, while reading another progressive Web site, I clicked on a BuyBlue link just to see what would happen, and I came across a new notice on the vacated Web site.

BuyBlue.org shuts down (?)

Wed May 02, 2007 at 05:47:30 AM PDT

I discovered some sad news this morning.

I was responding to another diary, about Circuit City's hiring policies (http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/4/30/104833/150) and, per usual, I started to go directly to BuyBlue.org to look up Circuit City's ratings on employee treatment, environmental policies and, most importantly, donations to Democratic and Republican candidates, when I discovered the site is no longer up.

Robertson, Falwell: Enemies of Second Amendment?

Wed Apr 18, 2007 at 11:41:28 AM PDT

Throughout the conservative media, there's been no shortage of arguments that the Virgina Tech Massacre wouldn't have happened had all students been allowed to carry guns.

Ignoring for a moment the poor logic of such an argument, it made me curious about how their political brethren handle this issue at their universities.

Culture of Corruption: Iraq-Style

Fri Nov 03, 2006 at 06:12:00 AM PDT

Remember those discoveries of shoddy construction in schools and other facilities throughout Iraq? Remember the reports of thousands of unaccounted for weapons in Iraq?

The Bush Administration's allies in congress apparently hope you don't. That's why they are trying to eliminate the inspector who found those gross abuses of taxpayer dollars, according to a new article by the New York Times News Service and posted on the Chicago Tribune's Web site.

Bin Laden: Alive and Well and Working for the Republicans

Fri Oct 20, 2006 at 05:45:46 AM PDT

Once again, the Republican Party has turned to their old buddy, Osama Bin Laden, to get them out of a tight election.

Trib. endorses Melissa Bean, then reverts to form

Thu Oct 19, 2006 at 04:38:18 PM PDT

In my diary yesterday, I relayed that the once-conservative now-wingnut Chicago Tribune endorsed a slew of Democrats for Congress, even as they threw in some fulsome praise for retiring conservative hack Rep. Henry Hyde (he of the "youthful indescretions").

Today, the Tribsters show their true colors.

Tribune endorses Duckworth, other Dems

Wed Oct 18, 2006 at 06:12:02 PM PDT

The Chicago Tribune, a one-time respectable organ of the "enlighted conservatism" that has turned more and more wingnutty over the past six years, has published a list of congressional endorsements today and--surprise, surprise--they're all Dems.

Chi-Town Smackdown Coming Next Year?

Sun Sep 17, 2006 at 08:43:46 AM PDT

Chicago may have a humdinger of a mayor's race coming next year, with Jesse Jackson Jr. increasingly drawing comparisons between Mayor Richard Daley and George Bush.
